If you have advanced hosting needs, Dedicated Hosting IP (Internet Protocol) may be for you. A Dedicated Hosting IP means each web hosting account has a unique address, not shared by any other accounts on the same server. Since the majority of sites on the Web are hosted via shared IP, most Domain Names and Web Hosting hosting customers don’t need a Dedicated Hosting IP. However, you might consider paying the small additional cost for Dedicated Hosting IP if:

You want to access your accounts by FTP as well as the Web when the domain name is otherwise inaccessible, such as domain name propagation periods. You want your site to be backwards-compatible with older browsers. You want to create a corporate intranet. You need a faster response with high traffic loads.

Do you need an Dedicated IP Address?
You don't, unless you plan to use SSL (secure socket layer...SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data - a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message.)

A dedicated IP address doesn't do anything for your web site other than uniquely identify it in the IPv4 address space. This is required for using an SSL Certificate. Dedicated IP addresses are assigned to customers who plan on using SSL certificates on their sites.
